Marko RUZIC | City of Velika Gorica

Head of Office for Environmental Protection

at City of Velika Gorica

Marko Ruzic holds a degree in biology and economy from Zagreb University.

Marko Ruzic has worked as expert advisor at the City of Velika Gorica for more than 20 years. Since 2013 he is head of the Environmental Protection Office of the city and works on projects as well as policy and regulation in the field of environmental and nature protection, waste management and energy efficiency. He develops, coordinates and implements projects at local, national and international level, and works on making Croatia’s 6th largest city a sustainable and livable city.

The city is extremely interested in refurbishing the existing district heating network, both on the side of supply and distribution, and in decarbonising the system leveraging on the use of locally available resources, such as biomass, biogas, solar and geothermal. Thanks to the PLANHEAT tool, Velika Gorica gets support in finding better sources of data, evaluating the local potentials and, thus, exploring suitable decarbonisation paths.
